LIMA COMMITMENT AND OAS MISSION:

OAS institutional action revolves around four (4) interdependent pillars, through which work is being done on all areas of the Lima Commitment. The pillars of the OAS are: Democracy, Human Rights, Integral Development, and Multidimensional Security.
Reading the Lima Commitment, against the backdrop of the pillars, the following is highlighted:

DEMOCRACY PILLAR

Activities spearheaded by the Secretariat for Legal Affairs (MESICIC), the Secretariat for Strengthening Democracy (Electoral Observation and MACCIH), and the Secretariat for Hemispheric Affairs (Department for Effective Public Management and Summits Secretariat).

HUMAN RIGHTS PILLAR

Activities spearheaded by the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) and the Inter-American Commission of Women (CIM).

DEVELOPMENT PILLAR

Activities spearheaded by the Executive Secretariat for Integral Development (Education and Competitiveness), the Secretariat for Strengthening Democracy (MACCIH), Secretariat for Hemispheric Affairs (Summits Secretariat) and Young Americas Business Trust.

SECURITY PILLAR

Spearheaded by the Secretariat for Multidimensional Security (SMS), in particular the secretariats of the Inter-American Drug Abuse Control Commission (CICAD) and the Inter-American Committee against Terrorism (CICTE), as well as the Department of Public Security and the Department against Transnational Organized Crime (DTOC).
